The typical reason this occurs is the wedge on the SpeedKnob is stuck in the tongue, there is a simple fix that you can complete in a few minutes
- Estimated time to complete fix: 15-30 mins
- Tools required: Rubber mallet, adjustable wrench
- Parts: Three 8mm stainless steel washers
Process:
1) Remove rack from receiver hitch
2) You should see that the wedge is stuck in the tongue (Image 1)
3) Loosen SpeedKnob all the way - This will likely drive the knob outward away from the tongue leaving a gap between the knob and the tongue
4) Use a mallet or the base of your hand to tap on the face of the SpeedKnob. This will push the wedge back, resulting in the knob sliding in toward the tongue
5) Using the Adjustable Wrench remove the black acorn nut
6) Add 3mm thick stack of M8 washers (typically equates to two to three M8 washers), between the back of the wedge and the inside face of the acorn nut (Image 2)
7) Reinstall acorn nut (Image 3)
