Every vehicle will have a maximum dynamic weight limit listed in our FIT GUIDE. This is the maximum weight of your rack system and load that can be safely attached your vehicle while it is in motion.
To determine how much weight you can carry in the box you must subtract the weight of the box (listed below) from the maximum weight listed for the vehicle. If you have any other accessories (ski , bike, boat mounts) attached to the bars the weight of the accessory and the item(s) being carried needs to be included in your calculation.
If you are using a Yakima, or other aftermarket rack to attach the box;
In this case you must also subtract the weight of the rack from the maximum weight listed.
For example a vehicle that has a 165 lbs weight limit using baseline towers;
BaseLine Tower set of 4 = 5.2 lbs
Small Core bar pair = 9.00 lbs
ShowCase 15 = 56 lbs
Total weight = 70.2
165 lbs limit - 70.2 lbs = 86 lbs max load in the cargo box.
If you are using the factory crossbars;
The calculation is easier. It is simply the max weight listed in our fit guide minus the weight of the cargo box and any other accessory mounted to the rack. For example;
Factory rack weight limit is 120 lbs
SkyBox 21 weight = 62 lbs
Max load in the cargo box would be 58 lbs
